Month: June 2019

6/30/2019

–Found pitting on Shig 270 Western suji. Cleaned it up (very nicely, I must say) and put some Boeshield on it.

–Replaced hearing aid battery around 7 PM.

6/29/2019

–Put stock handle back on Shigefusa kitaeji usuba in preparation for selling.

6/28/2019

–Knife handle finally came in. Dark red on one side, blond on the other (not shown so much in pictures). Tossed.

–Stopped Pavoni hissing leak. Tightened pressure gauge and fittings, as well as OPV. Not sure what started the leak.

6/27/2019

–Took Grace to dentist for crown molding.

–Had lunch at Zameen restaurant. Lamb burger for me, really good.

6/26/2019

–Replaced hearing aid battery around 10 AM.

–Took a walk on the beach. Windy.

6/25/2019

–Western Tsourkan came in. Had forge marks (or something) on blade that couldn’t be sanded out. Will toss.

–Put Kato 240 up for sale at KKF. Disaster. My fault. Knife had obviously been refinished (from across blade to parallel) and sharpened (point at heel was rounded)—likely by me. Can’t believe what an idiot I am. Won’t happen again.

–Nice gold Submariner came up on eBay for $17,250/offer. I offered $17,000. “Oops,” they said, “there was a mistake in pricing. It’s actually $18,900.” Shitheads. This has happened before. I believe dealers put the /offer in just to gauge interest. If someone bites, they’ll immediately raise the price significantly.

6/24/2019

–Robert Erickson knife came in. As usual, too thick/heavy. No more kitchen knives from bladeforums.

–SOMETHING caused Rocket drip tray to overflow—acted like FloJet was leaking or open or something. Took machine apart again to dry out. This is getting old.

6/23/2019

–Cleared weeds behind the garden shed. Thought I found a blackberry bush. Not likely.

–Put my favorite old long thin wa handle on the Fujiyama. Nice.

6/22/2019

–Sharpened Grace’s knives.

–Took Boris T. Beemer to Moss Landing. Got dried apricots, tomatoes, a potato, and—a great piece of halibut from the fishing boat Betticia.

6/21/2019

–Farm Frash (sic) Produce, Nob Hill, Pure Water, CVS.

–Replaced hearing aid batteries around 6 PM.

6/20/2019

–Roasted caf and decaf.

–Received notice from California Tax Board that I owed $849 use tax for a purchase from September 2018. Paid it. Very weird “purchase”: showed 3 DHL listings for around $5,000, $2,500 and $2,500 on same day from Portugal. Why were the amounts split up? I could investigate, but it would probably just serve to document my horrible memory.

6/19/2019

–Not much going on. Watched Thor–Ragnarok; pretty decent.

–Aldo’s bearclaws from El Patio for dessert.

6/18/2019

–Went to Ortega Nursery in Watsonville. Mind-boggling array of plants, more than half succulents. Most I’ve ever seen in one place. Bought a couple.

–Paid State Farm bills for auto (Civic) and home insurance.

6/17/2019

–Took Grace to endodontist Dr. Le on 41st. Good news: no root canal needed.

–Lunch at Burger King; shopping at New Leaf (again, not impressed).

6/16/2019

–Played with SCUBA stuff. Finally (re)got the Scubapro balanced/adjustable breathing nice by installing the lightest of 4 diaphragms. Ditto with brass-bodied Tekna. Discovered the Scubapro first stage wouldn’t take a “standard” HP hose connection, so swapped parts around a bit and built a nice one.

–Replaced hearing aid battery around 8 PM.

6/15/2019

–Filled in hole from front sprinkler repair. Finished weeding/flagging sprinklers in back.

6/14/2019

–Mowed lawns.

–Decided to fix broken sprinkler line myself after messaging Michael Casserd to get a recommendation and hearing nothing back. Got a coupler at Ace (and a pizza at Showtime nearby). Installed it with great feat of strength; all good.

6/13/2019

–Took Boris T. Beemer to Lunardi’s in Los Gatos for apples and such. Had so-so lunch at Los Gatos Cafe.

–3rd Konosuke Fujiyama came in. Nice! Might keep it…

6/12/2019

–Killed iPhone SE while replacing battery. Second one I’ve killed. Wow.

–Tried to find and flag some sprinkler heads in front. Used the short hoe to uncover a sprinkler that gophers had buried. Chopped a large hole in the sprinkler line in the process. CRAP!

6/11/2019

–Looked at sprinklers. Sort of. Need to do much more cleanup of vegetation so we can actually see them.

–Replaced hearing aid battery around 6 PM.

6/10/2019

–iPhone SE lost 20% of charge in roughly 24 hours (8:30 AM 6/9 to 10:00 AM 6/10).

–Played with regulators a lot. Found out Tekna/Ocean Edge IS adjustable, after you pull the knob off. Guessing there’s a built-in real-time adjuster on non-octopus models (if they exist). Reg is really flimsy: two screws hold the exhaust piece on, and the plastic threads had broken off one, so it was useless. Might have to buy the eBay Ocean Edge–the design does breathe easy.

–Compression ferrules came in. Buttoned everything up tight, still leaks like crazy. Crap. Back to o-rings I suppose.

6/9/2019

–A warm day: 80+.

–Based on an Omega Forums post, I discovered that the screw in one of the pushers on my moonwatch had no slot (World Time serviced the watch). I replaced it with a slotted screw. Both screws were unslotted in the OF post. Doesn’t make any sense: it’s really tricky getting the screw in and out with a hemostat.

–Gouty toe flared up again. I may need to hydrate…

6/8/2019

–Worked on Coffexes. Found evidence of leak at base of sight glass on the one I’ve been using. Ugly. Swapping out parts to build one nice machine.

–Warm day; showed 80 on our thermometer.

6/7/2019

–Cleared ivy next to shed. Exhausted.

–Took a shower.

6/6/2019

–Worked on Coffex all day. I hate Serto fittings.

–Replaced hearing aid battery around 6 PM.

6/5/2019

–Brian from Nolf Electric came out to estimate on generator/transfer switch. Learned much. (1) Transfer switch (panel interlock) might be $500 installed. (2) It will serve whole house. (3) 4kw-5kw generator should suffice, and gas generators can be easily converted to run on propane.

–17th iPhone came in. Battery is 100%. Eureka!

6/4/2019

–Got a 1″ haircut at Supercuts.

6/3/2019

–Got an appointment for a hearing test at Costco for July 9 (!).

–Gloomy day.

6/2/2019

–Much yard work; hurts.

–Lost right hearing aid doing yard work. Good excuse to upgrade.

6/1/2019

–Went through the breaker panels again to tie up some loose ends. ID’d everything except shop, which I don’t really care about. Ready to tell electrician which circuits should be tied to generator.
